How to Evaluate a Web Design Company By its Portfolio

Reading Time: 3 minutes

The first step towards establishing an online business is to develop a quality website. A website plays a very crucial role in the performance and success of a business. It is like an identity of a business online. Therefore, it is imperative to have a highly professional, visually appealing and user friendly website to put your best foot forward in the world of online business. The first prerequisite for having a quality website is to have a good business web design. And this can only be guaranteed by a professional and experienced custom web design company.

However, there is no dearth of custom web application development services. In fact, they are flourishing in abundance. It is important to select a good company as the design decided the course of action your business will take. So how to decide which service would be best for your custom web design? Well, a company’s portfolio speaks volumes about the quality and reliability of the services provided by it. Going through the portfolio can provide you some really important information about the company. Some of these are

Presence of Portfolio: It goes without saying that a web design company should have its own portfolio of the work done by it. A portfolio is like the ‘face’ and identity of a web design company. It must be subs, full and routinely updated. A good company will definitely have a good portfolio to show to its clients. It is better to stay away from a company without any portfolio.

Work Done: This is some really important information that can tell you a lot about the company. Certainly 30 successful projects are better than 10, but you should not forget about the quality. A finished project is quite different from a quality project. You should compare the number of projects completed by the company with the time period during which it has been operating in the market. Then calculate the average number of projects per year, month or week. An average custom website designing takes two to four weeks to be completed. All this information will tell you a lot about the expertise and work standard that the company possesses.

Variety of Work: Pay attention to each of the work mentioned in the portfolio. Try to find out how many projects are similar to the type of design you want them to do for you. If you find more than 3, it is well and good. Also, if you want any particular technology to be used in your web design, then it is better to examples how the web design company worked with it.

Quality: Look carefully at the each work. Note how much time does it take for the sites to load. If it takes only a few seconds, then the designers pretty well know how to optimize images. But if an HTML website takes more than 2-3 minutes to load, you should be careful. In this case, it is better to go with some other web design company.

Customer Satisfaction: Web designing is a highly competitive field. There are both good and worse companies. To know the company better, go through the real references of real owners of the web sites the web design company has made. This will tell you whether the company has satisfied customers or not.

Personal website: Last but not the least, you should compare the site of the designing company to those in its portfolio. Are they similar by quality, technology used, and overall feeling? If the sites mentioned in the portfolio look poorer than their own site, then there certainly is something fishy. It would be better to look for some other company.
