Well, as we know that HTML is a World Wide Web language used to write web pages. Actually there are tags in this HTML language and using these tags webmasters have amazingly created various network of hyperlink documents for example Wikipedia, Amazon and your personal website also. PSD to HTML is an important part of web development. This resulted in the fast paced growth of PSD To HTML service providers in the last 5 years.

Recently HTML 5 has been launched or you can say that it is updated again. HTML has big history of its own. HTML was created many years back and due to its credibility and utility is constantly been updated from the point it was created.

It was 1991 when the super brain Tim-Berner-Lee wrote a document to write web pages and that was called “HTML Tags”. That time there exist SGML (Standard Generalized Markup Language) and it was a language that uses tags in the way of words between angle brackets. Tim Berner lee found it more beneficial to do something more innovative on these tags. And that trend is also there in HTML5. So here is the brief history of markup.

From IETF to W3C

The first major turning point in HTML was in 1999 when 4.01 was published .Before that the Internet Engineering Task Force was taken over by World Wide Web consortium (W3C). Let me tell you that there was nothing like HTML 1 . Actually the start was from HTML 2.0 and it was published by the Internet Engineering Task Force before empowered by W3C.

HTML 4.0 to XHTML 1.0

Now after HTML4.0, this language was again revised into XHTML 1.0 where X means Extensible. There was not so much difference between HTML 4.01 and XHTML.There content was almost same. The difference was only in the syntax of language. Prior to XHTML when there was HTML authors are free to write their contents but in XHTML the author has to follow the rules of XML where XML is a markup language and W3C has based its most of the technology on it. You can say that XHTML 1 was HTML which is formulated in XML. Now, PSD to XHTML is in high trend these days.

XHTML 1.0 to XHTML 2.0

They began working on XHTML 2 using basics from XHTML 1.0 and having no traces of HTML. There was not a much difference between XHTML 1.0 and XHTML 2.0. All these HTML web trends accelerated the growth of PSD to HTML requirements and hence the number of its services providers in the web design industry.

THE SPLIT WIHIN W3C

There was a split within the W3C because the consortium was formulating such standards in which web designers are not happy. Representatives from most of the web browsers were not happy with this standard direction of W3C and that leads to the formation of a group known as the Web Hypertext Application Technology Working Group, (WHATWG)

From Web Apps 1.0 to HTML5

From the starting itself the working of WHATWG was quite different from W3C.In W3C there was a democratic standard where everyone can vote for a common cause while in WHATWG everyone had right to discuss but the ultimate decision will be taken by the editor. Initially there was lots of work in WHATWG, so there work was divided into two specifications: Web Forms 2.0 and Web Apps 1.0 and both were intended to extend HTML. As the time passes, both were merged into HTML5.

Reunification

October 2006, Sir Tim Berners admitted that this attempt was not working to move the web from HTML to XML. So the new charter for an HTML Working Group was issued by W3C. But there creates some kind of confusion that W3C was working for XHTML 2 as well as for HTML 5 (note the space before the letter five). Meanwhile, the WHATWG was working on a HTML5 (with no space)

End of HTML 2.0

The confusion was clear when W3C announces that XHTML 2 will not be renewed.

The Timeline of HTML 5

At present time there are two groups working on HTML5. The WHATWG and W3C but the important question rises this time is when will it be ready? Prior to HTML5, heading tags through were pretty easy to understand. Over the years, some best practices have been adopted in order to improve semantics, SEO, and accessibility. With the introduction of HTML5, to use the new structural elements we need to rethink the way we view the structure of our pages. Rather than using tag one for each page, the new trend suggests to use tag for every section that you have on one page. An element is used to group related heading elements that you want to act as a single heading for a defined or implied section; is not used on every set of headings, only those that act as a single unit outside of adjacent content.
