What we do

PixelCrayons is a digital agency for education providers and e-learning companies. Schools, universities, training providers and edtech teams use one senior team. We reach students and parents through SEO and PPC. We build course platforms and portals with accessibility first. We also run content and set up AI assistants that say they're AI.

What education teams need

Five problems education
teams bring us.

Each row is a problem that education marketing, admissions and product leads bring us. The service that solves it is linked, so you can go straight to the detail.

01

Students and parents research for months

Choosing where to enrol is a long research project for several people: course comparisons, fees, outcomes and reviews. SEO wins the questions applicants ask early. PPC covers the key weeks around intakes and clearing, when missing a week can cost you students. We plan both around the academic calendar, not a generic one.

Recruitment
02

Course platforms and portals that hold up

Education runs on software that must cope with results-day traffic and daily student use. That means prospectus sites, applicant portals and learning platforms. Our web development covers portals and platform builds, designed first for the device students use most: their phones.

Platform
03

A planned content programme instead of scattered posts

We publish to a plan, not ad hoc: course guides, applicant FAQs, outcome stories and staff expertise. Our content marketing builds a library that answers what applicants and parents ask, in the order they ask it. Authors are named and claims can be checked.

Content
04

Accessibility built in from the start

In education, accessibility is a legal and moral baseline. Students can't opt out of the portal. Our UI/UX design follows WCAG guidance from the first wireframe. That covers contrast, keyboard paths, screen-reader structure and plain language, tested rather than assumed.

Access
05

AI assistants that are honest about being AI

A well-built assistant answers routine questions from your own course material at 2am. It does not pretend to be a teacher. Our AI chatbots and wider AI solutions use your content, are clearly labelled as AI, and hand over to staff as soon as a question needs a person.

An agency serving education clients?

We deliver the same work under partner agencies' brands: their templates, their client calls, our delivery. We do not approach the clients you introduce to us for direct business. That protection runs through the work and for twelve months after the last assignment for that client ends, and it is written into the agreement.

Getting started

Send the prospectus site before intake.

We measure one page of your site, its speed on a phone included, and show the three things to fix first. A person reviews the full report. Yours to keep, whether or not we ever speak again.

Learning Tribe: a modern, secure website for an Australian learning consultancy.

An Australian learning and development consultancy needed a website that stood out from its rivals and earned trust. We built a secure WordPress site that works on any screen, made to hold visitors' interest and bring in leads.

What's different about education

Term dates and committees
decide the timeline.

Education buying follows an academic calendar and is decided by a group. A business usually buys by quarter, through one person. Nearly every timing difference follows from that.

The buying window is narrow and fixed

Schools and universities tend to buy around budget and term cycles. So a campaign that misses its window isn't just late: it waits for the next academic year. That means planning further ahead, and delays cost far more than in a market where any month will do.

Calendar

A committee decides, and its members want different evidence

An academic lead, an IT decision-maker and a finance signatory judge the same purchase in different ways. Material aimed only at the enthusiast rarely gets through purchasing. So your content has to cover the whole group, not just the person who found you.

Buying group

Accessibility is required before institutions will buy

Public-sector and many private institutions need proof of accessibility before they buy. That makes WCAG compliance a condition of the sale, not just a quality upgrade. Adding it late costs far more than building it in from the start.

Compliance

The learning platform usually can't be changed

Whatever learning management system (LMS) is in place tends to be the fixed point everything connects to. What it can and can't do limits what a build can promise. Finding those limits halfway through a project is a common cause of rework.

Integration

Student data raises the bar on tracking

Where children or student records are involved, consent and data rules are stricter. A standard analytics setup is usually not enough. So tracking has to be planned around those rules from the start, not installed first and checked later.

Inside Prism

Your engagement, week to week,
in one workspace.

Prism is the client workspace where your requests, approvals, tasks and weekly reviews live.

Some engagements include Prism, our client workspace, and your proposal says whether yours does. Where it does, the work runs in one workspace you log into, whatever your sector: requests, approvals, tasks and the weekly review, with each decision recorded.

    Requests and approvals

One queue, one owner, one due date.

  • 02

Questions

Frequently
asked.

Rarely, and we'll tell you when you don't need one. Most education teams do better by extending an established LMS or building a focused portal around it. Sometimes a custom build is justified, such as for a company selling learning software or for workflows no platform supports. Then we set out the trade-offs in writing before you commit.

No, and we won't build one that pretends to. What works is narrower: an assistant that uses your own course material to answer routine questions at any hour. It is clearly labelled as AI. It hands over to a person as soon as a question involves judgement, wellbeing or marks.

Yes. The buyers differ, but the skills are the same. Schools and colleges usually need recruitment marketing and an accessible site. Universities add portals, faculty content and large intake campaigns. E-learning and edtech companies look more like software businesses. So there we work as an edtech marketing agency, using our SaaS experience.

As a default, not an extra. Design work follows WCAG guidance from the first wireframe: contrast, keyboard navigation, screen-reader structure and plain language. We test against it before launch. We don't issue compliance certificates. We do document exactly what was checked, so your team can back the result with evidence.

No. Enrolment depends on course, price, reputation and factors no agency controls, and anyone promising a number is guessing. What we commit to in the contract is the work. That means campaigns launched on the academic calendar, content published and portal improvements made. We report weekly on enquiries, applications and conversions rather than vanity metrics.

Once we have a complete brief, we confirm when your proposal arrives. Eligible work can typically start two to three business days after scope, payment and required access are confirmed. For recruitment work we plan backwards from your intake dates. If clearing or an application deadline is close, tell us and we'll do the quick wins first.

drop out of the funnel.

Send the brief and an itemised, priced proposal comes back. Or start with the free website review: we measure one page of your website and a person reviews the report.
