Why we turn down small SEO retainers, and what we tell those clients instead

SEO has a minimum viable scope beneath which the work becomes theatre: too little budget to move a real number, but just enough to bill monthly for trying.

When a retainer is the wrong answer, and a fixed-scope project is right

A retainer suits open-ended, compounding work. A problem with a real finish line needs a fixed-scope project; forcing it into a retainer wastes money.

What the growth posts cover

The business side of delivery: engagement models, pricing, partner vetting and how agencies add capacity without adding risk. Many of these posts are written for agency owners, because we deliver work under other agencies' brands, and the questions they face are specific: when to use freelancers, how to vet a white-label partner, and what happens to margins as the client list grows.

Others are for brands choosing how to buy help: a retainer or a project, a dedicated team or a specialist, one partner or several vendors. The posts try to say plainly when our own model is the wrong fit, because a partnership that starts on the wrong shape rarely recovers.

The pages below go into how partnerships, pricing and dedicated teams work in practice.
