In writing, every time

What every eCommerce design
project includes.

01

Research into how your buyers actually shop

If you have a store, we review its analytics and heatmaps. We also study competitors' stores and what people search for in your category. Every template gets a written job before it's drawn. It says which shopper it serves, which doubt it answers and what it asks them to do.

Week 1
02

Category and product pages designed to convert

Filters match how buyers narrow down a catalogue. Images and size or colour pickers go where shoppers look first. Proof, such as reviews, stock levels and delivery promises, sits right next to the choice it supports. It is planned in from the start, not added afterwards.

Every template
03

A checkout designed so buyers can pay quickly

Your checkout gets as few steps as possible, clear error messages, guest checkout and the payment methods your market expects. We design and test it before a single line of code. A beautiful checkout that still asks twelve questions hasn't solved the problem it exists to solve.

Every build
04

Store pages designed to rank in search

We plan headings, content and page templates around what people really search for in your category. So your SEO work has something to build on instead of something to fight.

Every template
05

Designs built for your store's platform

Shopify, WooCommerce and Magento each display templates differently. We design within the real limits of your platform and theme. You don't get a generic mock-up that a developer then has to reinterpret.

Every delivery
How it starts

From your brief to the first templates,
step by step.

01
Start

Brief and a call

We sign an NDA and talk through how many products you sell, your platform and what success looks like.

02
Once the brief is complete

Audit and itemised proposal

We confirm the date your proposal arrives. It reviews your analytics, searches and current store. It lists the templates, checkout and handover, each with a price.

03
Your decision

You sign off

You confirm the scope, the payment and the access we need. Nothing starts before this.

04
Typically 2 to 3 business days later

The team starts

We agree your categories and what each page must do. You get simple page layouts for category, product and checkout, and we choose a visual direction with you.

05
On the date in your proposal

First deliverable

Category and product page designs, built from live components and ready for you to review. The checkout follows. Then we hand over the files, or our team builds it.

Inside Prism

Your engagement, week to week,
in one workspace.

Prism is the client workspace where your requests, approvals, tasks and weekly reviews live.

Where the engagement includes it, your design work runs in a Prism workspace you log into: review requests, sign-offs, the task list and the weekly review, with each decision recorded.

  • 01

    Review requests and sign-offs

One queue, one owner, one due date.

  • 02

    Weekly review

Each decision recorded, with the expectation attached.

  • 03

How we report it, in Prism

The states ledger,
before a screen is signed off.

What you receive in month one

Design is reported as a set of documents you can review without a walkthrough. In the first month you receive the research summary with the tasks users need to complete, the information architecture with every page and its purpose, and the states ledger listing each screen with its empty, loading, error and success states. Review rounds are logged with the decisions taken and the reasons for them.

  • 01Research summary: user tasks, existing friction, and what was observed
  • 02Information architecture: every page, its purpose, and how users reach it
  • 03States ledger: each screen with empty, loading, error and success states
  • 04Component inventory: what is reused, what is new, and where each appears
  • 05Decision log: each review round, what changed and why

Where this fits

How store design connects
to your other eCommerce work.

Not selling online? Web design covers marketing sites and landing pages in general. Already have a store design and need the code built? eCommerce development builds Shopify, WooCommerce and Magento stores from the same brief. Moving platforms first? Shopify migration comes before any redesign starts.

Questions

Frequently
asked.

Yes, and we design within the real limits of your platform. Shopify themes, WooCommerce on WordPress and Magento's layout blocks each show a component differently. So we draw templates with your platform's rules in mind. Shopify web design, for example, starts from the theme your store runs. If you haven't picked a platform yet, our eCommerce development team can help you choose first.

Web design covers marketing sites and landing pages, the pages that explain and persuade. This service is narrower: an ecommerce web design solution for the pages where shoppers buy. That means category, product and checkout pages. Our research covers how people browse, compare and leave a cart. For a marketing site with no store, our web design service is the right page.

Not if the redesign is planned with search in mind. We treat category and product web addresses, headings and links between pages as SEO decisions during design. Moving platforms as well, such as Magento to Shopify, is a separate and bigger risk. It needs its own redirect plan, which our migration services cover.

Either. The team that designs your store can build it as a live Shopify, WooCommerce or Magento theme. That avoids a common problem, where a separate development team reinterprets the design. Or you can take the design files to your own developers. They get named layers, documented tokens and exact measurements a stranger could build from.

The cost depends on how many products and templates you have, not on a page count, so there's no flat rate. Every proposal lists what you get, each with a price. That covers research, category and product templates, the checkout, the component system and handover notes. Once we have a complete brief, we confirm when your proposal arrives.

Compare what each proposal lists: research, category and product templates, the checkout, the component system and handover notes. Ask whether the design fits your platform's real limits or is a generic mock-up. And ask who builds it. Detail gets lost when a separate development team reinterprets the design.
