Shopify SEO, fixed in the theme,
not bolted on.

Shopify sets hard limits: fixed URL paths, theme-speed ceilings, apps that quietly slow every page. We work inside them: speed fixed in the theme, collections built on search demand, the schema Shopify doesn't ship, and migrations that keep your rankings.

PixelCrayons' Shopify SEO service works within the platform's real constraints (themes, collections, apps and URLs) and says which of them are Shopify's to control. The work: Core Web Vitals (Google's page speed and stability scores) fixed at theme level rather than masked by another app, collection architecture built on search demand, an app-by-app audit of the bloat slowing every page, structured data Shopify doesn't ship by default, and SEO-safe migrations to Shopify. Direct for brands, white-label for agencies.

What the Shopify work
actually covers.

01

Core Web Vitals at theme level

Speed fixed where Shopify lets you fix it: render-blocking scripts deferred, images sized and lazy-loaded, fonts and sections trimmed in the theme itself. None of it masked by yet another speed app adding its own script tag. We are candid about the ceiling too: parts of the platform's infrastructure are Shopify's to control, and we tell you which is which.

Per template
02

App bloat, weighed app by app

Every installed app weighed against what it costs: the scripts it injects on every page, the styles it duplicates, the leftovers it never cleaned up. Apps that pay rent stay; apps whose job a few lines of theme code can do get replaced; abandoned ones get excised properly. Most Shopify speed problems are app problems wearing a theme's clothes.

Quarterly
03

Collection architecture on demand

Collections treated as the category pages they are: built around query classes buyers use, navigable, internally linked, with genuine buying guidance above the grid. Thin, near-duplicate collections (the same products re-sliced under a dozen names) get consolidated before they dilute what the store has earned.

Foundation
04

The schema Shopify doesn't ship

Shopify's default structured data is a start, not a strategy. We deploy and maintain what is missing: complete product data, organisation and breadcrumb schema, FAQs where they earn their place. It stays valid as themes and apps change underneath it, so rich results and AI answer engines read the store correctly.

Every release
05

Migrations to Shopify, SEO-safe

Replatforming to Shopify means accepting its URL structure (/products/ and /collections/ are not negotiable). That makes the redirect map the whole game: every URL that ever earned a ranking mapped to its new home before cutover, metadata and schema carried over, and monitoring until the graphs settle. Planning ahead beats post-launch forensics.

Theme audit to

01
Days 1 to 2

Store audit & baseline

Theme weight measured, every app's page cost inventoried, collections mapped against search demand, schema coverage checked. The store's current state recorded: the baseline we are judged against.

02
Week 1

Fix list, ranked

Findings ranked by revenue impact versus effort: which theme fixes move vitals, which apps to retire, which collections to rebuild or consolidate first. You approve the order before work starts.

03
Weeks 2 to 4

Theme fixes live

The high-impact tier ships: scripts deferred, the worst app offenders removed or replaced, first collections rebuilt on their query classes, structured data validated across templates.

04
Month 2+

Compound & guard

The monthly cycle: extend the collection work, keep vitals holding as new apps and sections arrive, deepen the content, reported against organic sessions and revenue, not vanity metrics.

Where Shopify SEO fits

Platform-specific,

The strategy layer above Shopify SEO (category thinking, faceted navigation, marketplace terms) is eCommerce SEO. When the answer is engineering, a theme rebuilt or a replatform run, that is Shopify development, under the same roof. Start with the free review.

Questions

Frequently
asked.

No, but it is opinionated, and the useful answer names the constraints. Shopify's defaults are solid: clean sitemaps, canonical tags (which URL to index), fast infrastructure. Its constraints are real: URL paths you cannot restructure, limited control over some platform files, and an app ecosystem that makes it very easy to make a store slow. In practice, most Shopify stores' SEO problems are not platform problems: they are theme weight, app bloat and collection architecture, all fixable. We work the fixable list and tell you plainly what sits behind Shopify's fence.

In our experience, almost always apps and theme weight. Every app you have ever installed may still be injecting scripts into every page, and themes accumulate sections, fonts and trackers like sediment. It matters twice: Core Web Vitals are a modest ranking signal, and speed is a large conversion factor, so the same fix pays out in both currencies. Our approach is to fix causes in the theme and retire what injects the cost. Adding a speed app on top of the pile just treats the symptom by adding to the disease.

The risk is real and manageable: what decides it is the redirect map. Moving to Shopify means accepting its URL structure, so every URL that ever earned a link or a ranking must be mapped to its new /products/ or /collections/ home before cutover. Metadata, schema and content get carried over deliberately, with monitoring held until the graphs settle. Some short-term turbulence after a large replatform is normal and we say so upfront; the lasting losses come from skipped mapping, and the protocol exists so none of it is skipped.

Apps are good at the mechanical layer (redirects, meta fields, image alt text at scale), and we will happily use one where it genuinely pays rent. But no app can redesign a collection architecture around search demand, decide which near-duplicate collections to consolidate, fix the theme code slowing every page, or write buying guidance a category deserves. Those are judgement and engineering, which is what you hire a Shopify SEO consultant for. A stack of SEO apps is often part of the speed problem we get asked to fix.

This page is organic search: making an existing Shopify store fast, crawlable and structured to win the queries its catalogue deserves. Shopify development is the engineering capability (custom themes, apps, Plus work and replatform builds) run by the Shopify-specialist team we share a roof with. The pairing is the point: when an SEO fix is really an engineering task, it goes to people who write Liquid every week instead of dying in a recommendations deck. You can buy either alone, or both on one roadmap.

No, and no honest agency does. Rankings are decided by Google, on Shopify or anywhere else. What we commit to contractually is the work: theme fixes shipped, apps audited, collections rebuilt, schema valid, migrations mapped, all reported weekly against sessions and revenue. The number to judge us on is the published one: +127% organic traffic growth on the SaaS case we've written up in full. That's one engagement out of 500+ SEO programmes, not an average of them, which is why you can check it.
