What we do

PixelCrayons builds, extends and rescues WooCommerce stores: custom extensions, payment and shipping integrations, and performance work. A senior team writes custom extension code instead of stacking plugins. We build a checkout that doesn't lose orders. And we tell you straight when WooCommerce isn't the right platform. We work directly for brands, and white-label (under your brand) for agencies.

  1. Your store and content in one placeThe store and the content in one system, with the catalogue built as structured data.
  2. Custom extensions instead of plugin stacksCustom features written as one extension that survives updates, and every other plugin checked.
  3. Payments, shipping and tax, wired and testedGateways, live carrier rates and tax rules, with every failure state handled before launch.
Fit check

Is WooCommerce
right for you?

Right for you if
  • Content and commerce belong together, and your team already works in WordPress
  • You want to own the whole setup outright, with no per-order platform fee
  • The true total of hosting, patching and plugin upkeep works out less than a managed platform's fees
Not the right fit if
  • Nobody on your side wants to think about hosting, patching or plugin upkeep
  • Your catalogue is large-scale B2B with complex pricing (Magento usually fits better)
  • You'd rather stop running servers entirely (a managed platform does that for a fee)
  • 4,500+ projects delivered since 2004
  • Extensions written, not stacked
  • Migrations mapped before anything moves
  • Clear IP & Ownership Terms

  • White-label delivery for agencies
In every engagement

What a WooCommerce build
actually includes.

01

Your store and content in one place

WooCommerce's real advantage is that the store and the content live in one system. The same team edits product pages, buying guides and the blog in the same admin. We build the catalogue as well-structured data with clean templates. That way the store gets the benefits of WordPress instead of fighting it. Our WordPress development team uses the same engineering standards on every build.

Every build
02

Custom extensions instead of plugin stacks

We've learned from WordPress rescues that plugins don't fix a badly built site, and stores are no different. Your store may need custom features, such as pricing rules, checkout fields or product builders. We write those as one clean extension that won't break when WordPress updates. We don't chain three plugins together and hope their next updates agree. We check every plugin left. Each must be maintained, needed and worth the code it adds to every page a buyer sees.

Every build
03

Payments, shipping and tax, wired and tested

We set up the payment methods your customers use and live shipping rates from your carriers. Tax rules are set up to stand up to an audit. We handle every failure before launch, so your first customer doesn't find it. That includes declined cards, address mismatches and two buyers chasing the last item in stock. Order data flows on to fulfilment, accounting and email. Your team stops typing it in twice, and your reports agree.

Before launch
04

Speed built into the checkout

A cart page can't be cached like a simple info page, so speed has to be built in. We use object caching and keep the database clean as orders pile up. We limit scripts on each template and choose hosting that suits a store. We measure Core Web Vitals (Google's speed scores) on every release, and a release that fails them doesn't go live. If your store is already slow, our Performance service fixes it as a separate project.

Every release

Honest advice on staying or leaving

Sometimes the right plan for a WooCommerce store is to leave WooCommerce. If so, we'll show you the numbers. Hosting, patching and plugin upkeep may cost more than a managed platform's fees. Or the store may have outgrown WordPress. Then we map every product, order and ranking page before anything switches. That's our Migrations service, and it works in both directions.

How it starts

From NDA to working software,
step by step.

01
Start

Brief and a call

We sign an NDA and go through the store with you. We look at the theme, plugins, payment setup, hosting and where you're losing orders today. There's no charge for this stage.

02
Once the brief is complete

Itemised proposal

We confirm the date your proposal arrives. It lists what ships (extensions, integrations, performance work, migration plan), in what order and for how much.

03
Your decision

You sign off

You confirm the scope, the payment and the access we need. Nothing starts before this.

04
Typically 2 to 3 business days later

The team starts

We assign WooCommerce engineers. They set up version control for the theme and extensions in your accounts. They also set up a test site and a safe way to release changes.

05
On the date in your proposal

First deliverable

We show you working software on the test site, on a call. It might be a rebuilt checkout, a custom extension or a faster catalogue. The build then runs in fixed blocks, each ending in a demo.

Inside Prism

Your engagement, week to week,
in one workspace.

Prism is the client workspace where your requests, approvals, tasks and weekly reviews live.

Some engagements include Prism, our client workspace, and your proposal says whether yours does. Where it does, your build runs in a workspace you log into: requests, approvals, the task list and the weekly review, beside the repository your team already owns.

  • 02

How we report it, in Prism

The store readiness checklist,
before launch day.

What you receive in month one

A commerce build is reported against a launch checklist agreed before the build starts. In the first month you receive the catalogue and data audit with every field mapped, the integration map covering payments, shipping, tax and stock, and the checkout test plan with the orders that must complete before go-live. The weekly review in Prism tracks the checklist, not the mood in the room.

  • 01Catalogue and data audit: products, variants, customers and orders, field by field
  • 02Integration map: payments, shipping, tax, stock and email, with owners
  • 03Checkout test plan: the orders, payment types and edge cases that must pass
  • 04Performance budget: page weight and response targets for key templates
  • 05Launch checklist: what must be true on the day, and who signs each line

FleaSolve: moving a vet-grade brand off WooCommerce, onto Shopify.

A UK maker of vet-grade flea and tick treatment for pets needed its own shop to sell as well as its marketplace listings. It describes itself as the only UK producer. We moved its store from WooCommerce to a Shopify 2.0 build designed to earn trust.

The rescue audit

What we check on a slow
or fragile WooCommerce store.

Struggling WooCommerce stores tend to share four problems. They have a heavy theme, a plugin for every feature, basic hosting and a neglected database. A rescue starts by checking what is actually running. Then we fix it. These are the checks, in the order we make them.

  1. 01What is actually runningWe go through the theme, the plugins, the payment setup and the hosting with you on the first call.
  2. 02Every plugin, one by oneEach one must be maintained, needed and worth the code it adds to every page a buyer sees. Any plugin that fails is removed or replaced.
  3. 03Plugin stacks doing custom workPricing rules, checkout fields and product builders made from chained plugins become one clean extension that survives updates.
  4. 04Speed around the cartA cart page can't be cached like a simple info page. So we check the caching setup, object caching and how clean the database is. We also check the scripts on each template, and whether the hosting suits a store.
  5. 05The checkout's failure statesWe handle declined cards, address mismatches and two buyers chasing the last item, before a customer finds them. Order data flows on to fulfilment, accounting and email.
  6. 06Fix or rebuildWe only suggest starting over when the audit shows fixing would cost more. We show you the numbers.

The audit can also conclude that leaving WooCommerce is right. If so, we map every product, order and ranking page before anything switches.

Questions

Frequently
asked.

It's right when your content and store belong together and you want to own it all, with no per-order fees. It's wrong if nobody wants to look after hosting, patching and plugins. A managed platform like Shopify does that for a monthly fee. Large B2B catalogues with complex pricing usually suit Magento. We build on all of them.

Usually, yes, without a rebuild. Most struggling stores have a heavy theme, a plugin for every feature, basic hosting and a neglected database. We check what's running and replace plugin stacks with lean extension code. We limit scripts on each template, fix caching around the cart and move you to hosting that fits. We only suggest starting over when fixing would cost more.

Sometimes, and a WooCommerce agency should be able to say so. Moving makes sense if hosting, upkeep and developer time cost more than a managed platform's fees. It also makes sense if your team wants to stop running servers. If you move, we map every product, customer, order and ranking page before anything switches. Our Migrations service does this in either direction.

It depends on the project. A checkout rebuild, a full store build and a rescue are each scoped on their own. Once we have a complete brief, we confirm when your proposal arrives. A single extension or integration takes weeks. A full store with a migration and ERP connections takes months. If a date is at risk, we tell you early.

Your materials, data and accounts remain yours, and agreed ownership rights in bespoke deliverables transfer under the engagement terms and applicable payment. Third-party software and assets keep their licences, and WooCommerce and WordPress are open source under the GPL. We don't withhold customer-owned data or accounts over a payment dispute, and documentation and credentials are handed over as we go.

Yes. WordPress stores are some of the most common work agencies hand us. You keep the project tools and client calls, and our engineers work behind the scenes. It's covered by an NDA. We don't approach the clients you introduce for direct business, during the work or for twelve months after the last assignment for that client ends, and that's written into the agreement.

The range

What it costs,
at the direct rate.

  • ProjectCustom extension or integration$1,250–$7,500fixed quote, one-time
  • RetainerMonthly retainer$375–$2,500per month
