Move from Magento to Shopify
without losing an order.

We map your Magento products, product details and customers to Shopify before anything moves. Redirects go live with the launch. Magento stays live until we've checked the new store record by record.

What we do

PixelCrayons migrates Magento stores to Shopify, mapping product, attribute and order data to Shopify's structure before anything moves. First we list and map multi-store setups, custom product attributes and B2B pricing rules. A redirect map goes live at the switch. Magento isn't switched off until we've checked the new store against that list, record by record.

  1. A Magento-specific catalogue auditEvery product, custom attribute and multi-store setup inventoried and mapped before migration starts.
  2. Order history and customer accounts, mapped and verifiedOrders, customers and B2B pricing tiers migrated and reconciled against the pre-migration count.
  3. A redirect map for Magento's URL structureEvery historic Magento URL gets a mapped, tested redirect into Shopify before cutover.

In every Magento move

What a Magento to Shopify
migration actually includes.

01

A Magento-specific catalogue audit

First we list every product, custom attribute, configurable product and multi-store setup in Magento. Magento's attributes have no direct match in Shopify. So we map each custom attribute to a Shopify custom field (metafield) or option before the move starts. Nothing is left to discover halfway through.

First
02

Order history and customer accounts, mapped and verified

We move past orders, customer records and any B2B pricing tiers. Then we check them against the count taken before the move. Nothing on Magento is switched off until Shopify matches, record by record.

Before decommission
03

A redirect map for Magento's URL structure

Magento's category and product page addresses rarely match Shopify's. Before the switch, every old address gets its own tested redirect to the right Shopify page. That way you keep the search rankings you built on Magento.

Before cutover
04

A switch-over we rehearse first

We rehearse the full move on a Shopify test store first. We import the catalogue, turn on redirects and test checkout with real payment methods. On the day, the real switch follows the plan we've already rehearsed.

Rehearsed first
05

An honest read on whether Shopify fits

A Magento to Shopify migration company has every reason to recommend the move. So we test the case against it first. In some cases Magento still suits complex B2B pricing and highly custom catalogues better than Shopify. If that's you, the plan will say so. We won't move you to a platform that costs more to run than it saves.

Inside Prism

Your engagement, week to week,
in one workspace.

Prism is the client workspace where your requests, approvals, tasks and weekly reviews live.

Some engagements include Prism, our client workspace, and your proposal says whether yours does. Where it does, your build runs in a workspace you log into: requests, approvals, the task list and the weekly review, beside the repository your team already owns.

How we report it, in Prism

The cutover plan,
with nothing switched off early.

What you receive in month one

A migration is reported as an inventory and a cutover plan you approve before anything moves. In the first month you receive the full inventory of URLs, records and integrations, the redirect map matching every old address to its destination, and the data reconciliation plan naming how record counts will be checked on both sides. The old platform stays live until each check passes.

  • 01Inventory: URLs, product and customer records, integrations, and their owners
  • 02Redirect map: every old address matched to its destination and tested
  • 03Data reconciliation plan: counts and spot checks on both platforms
  • 04Cutover runbook: the order of steps, the checks between them, the rollback
  • 05Post-move watch: crawl errors, order flow and search visibility, daily at first
Where this fits

How this page fits
the full migration.

This page covers the mapping work that is specific to Magento. For the full audit, redirect and switch-over steps for any platform, see Shopify Migration. Sometimes the audit shows Magento's B2B pricing or complex catalogue fits better. Then our Magento / Adobe Commerce development team keeps building on it. Once the move is done, our Shopify Development team handles themes, custom apps and Plus work on the new store. If wholesale buyers are the reason you are on Magento, read B2B eCommerce development before you decide.

The mapping

Where each part of Magento
lands in Shopify.

Magento's data has no exact match in Shopify. So we decide where each part below goes during the audit, before the move starts.

What Magento holdsWhere it lands in ShopifyHow we decide
Custom attributesA custom field (metafield), a variant option, or dropped if unusedEach attribute gets its own decision in the audit, made before any data moves.
Multi-store and multi-website setupsOne Shopify store with markets, or several linked storesSet by how your stores share, or do not share, catalogue, customers and pricing.
Simple tiered or customer-group pricingShopify's B2B features or a compatible appThis usually maps across.
Heavily customised pricing logicSometimes there's no clean matchThe plan says so plainly, including the option of staying on Magento for that reason alone.
Category and product page addressesTested redirects to the matching Shopify pagesThey rarely match Shopify's, so every old page address is redirected before the switch.
Order history and customer accountsShopify orders and customers, checked against the count taken before the moveMagento stays live until Shopify matches, record for record.

Questions

Frequently
asked.

Of the common platforms, Magento stores data in the most complex way. It has custom attributes, configurable products, multi-store setups and sometimes B2B pricing tiers. None of these has an exact match in Shopify. So each custom attribute needs a decision before the move starts. It becomes a custom field (metafield) or a variant option, or it is dropped if unused.

It depends on how it's built. Simple tiered or group pricing usually maps to Shopify's B2B tools or an app that works with it. Highly custom Magento pricing sometimes doesn't move across cleanly. If that's your case, the plan will say so plainly. It will include the option of staying on Magento for that reason alone.

It depends on the catalogue size, how many custom attributes you use and whether you run several stores. So we set the timeline for each project. Once we have a complete brief, we confirm when your proposal arrives.

Not if the redirect map is built before the switch. Magento's page addresses rarely match Shopify's. So every old category, product and blog address gets mapped to its Shopify page and tested first. Some short-term ranking changes are normal after any platform move. But a move that loses its rankings has almost always skipped this step.

The audit answers that before you commit. We check your B2B pricing, custom attributes and multi-store setup against what Shopify can handle. If Magento still fits better, the plan says so. We won't move you somewhere that costs more to run than it saves.

Yes, and the audit confirms it early, because Shopify has no single match for Magento's multi-store setup. It depends on how your stores share products, customers and pricing. You might need one Shopify store with several markets, or several linked stores. The plan names which fits before anything moves.
