What we do

PixelCrayons builds websites, web apps and online stores, with engineering, QA and DevOps in one team. A senior team with a named lead works in reviewed, tested sprints and sends a written update every week. We work direct for brands and white-label for agencies.

  1. Senior engineers, matched to your stackEngineers who ship on your stack every week, led by a named technical lead.
  2. Code review on every mergeA second senior engineer reviews every pull request before it reaches your main branch.
  3. QA before you ever see itAutomated checks and manual testing across browsers and devices before every demo.

Pick your build

Every specialism.
One accountable team.

From a five-page marketing site to a custom storefront, every engagement is led by an engineer who ships that exact kind of build every week, not a generalist stretching to fit.

A site

You need a website and a team to build it properly.

A store

You're selling online and need the platform, migration or checkout work to match.

A fix or a layer

Something in the stack needs fixing or connecting, not a full rebuild.

Custom engineering

A build closer to product engineering than a website: delivered by our sibling company ValueCoders, one proposal, one account team.

Need a team, not a project?

When the roadmap is bigger than one build, embed a dedicated team: engineers, QA and a delivery lead working in your tools, under your processes, at a flat monthly rate. Agencies get white-label delivery; brands get a direct line to the people writing the code.

In every engagement

What a build with us
actually includes.

01

Senior engineers, matched to your stack

Your team is staffed with engineers who already ship on your stack every week, not juniors learning on your invoice. A named technical lead owns the architecture and is on every demo call. Decisions get made by someone you can actually talk to.

Every build
02

Code review on every merge

Nothing reaches your main branch unreviewed. A second senior engineer checks every pull request for correctness, security and maintainability against a written standard. The codebase you inherit is one your own team can extend without archaeology.

Every merge
03

QA before you ever see it

Every sprint ships through a QA gate: automated checks in CI plus manual passes across browsers and devices. Defects are logged, fixed and retested before the demo. You review working software, not a list of known issues.

Every sprint
04

A cadence you can plan around

Sprint demos of working software, and a written weekly summary of what shipped and what's next. One named point of contact sits in your Slack, Jira or Teams. If a date is at risk you hear it from us early, with options, not excuses.

In writing
The process

From NDA
to working software.

01
Start

Brief and a call

We sign an NDA and go through your goals, constraints, existing code and access. There's no discovery fee.

02
Once the brief is complete

Itemised proposal

We confirm the date your proposal arrives. It lists what ships, who builds it, in what order and for how much.

03
Your decision

You sign off

You confirm the scope, the payment and the access we need. Nothing starts before this.

04
Typically 2 to 3 business days later

The team starts

Engineers matched to your stack set up environments and the repository in your accounts, and plan the first sprint with you.

05
On the date in your proposal

First deliverable

Working software on staging, demoed on a call. From here the sprint cadence runs until the roadmap is done.

Inside Prism

Your engagement, week to week,
in one workspace.

Prism is the client workspace where your requests, approvals, tasks and weekly reviews live.

Where the engagement includes it, your build runs in a Prism workspace you log into: requests, approvals, the task list and the weekly review, beside the repository your team already owns.

  • 01

Requests and approvals, in one place

Raise a request in your workspace, approve a piece of work, and see who owns it and when it is due.

  • 02

    Owned tasks and routines

Every task has one owner and a date. Recurring work runs as a routine, so nothing depends on someone remembering.

  • 03

A weekly review with decisions recorded

Each decision is written down with the expectation attached: what we expect to change, and by when.

  • 04

Every action recorded, checked against the outcome

What we did and what happened sit side by side, so the next review starts from evidence rather than memory.

Multi-location healthcare: delivery unblocked.

A US agency's healthcare client kept growing locations faster than the agency could ship features. We embedded a dedicated development team under the agency's brand: their tools, their standards, our engineers. Delivery sped up 85% and the backlog cleared, all delivered under the agency's brand.

Choosing the model

Fixed price, a monthly team,
or time and materials.

Three engagement models cover most of our work. The scope decides which one we propose, and the proposal itemises deliverables, people and timeline whichever it is.

Your situationWhat we proposeWhy
A well-defined build with a settled scopeFixed priceYou compare what ships against a written, priced scope.

Every model starts the same way: an NDA, a call about your scope, then a written, priced proposal with no commitment attached.

Questions

Frequently
asked.

It depends on what you're building, so we price the scope, not a package. Fixed price suits well-defined builds, a monthly dedicated team suits ongoing roadmaps, and time and materials suits moving requirements. Every proposal itemises deliverables, people and timeline, with no commitment attached.

Eligible engagements can typically start two to three business days after scope, payment and required access are confirmed. Before that comes an NDA, a call about your scope and an itemised proposal. If a niche stack means we can't start that quickly, we tell you before you sign.

Your materials, data and accounts remain yours. Agreed ownership rights in bespoke deliverables transfer under the engagement terms and applicable payment; third-party software and assets keep their licences. We do not withhold customer-owned data or accounts over a payment dispute. Documentation and credentials are handed over as we go rather than ransomed at the end.

JavaScript and TypeScript (React, Next.js, Node.js), PHP (WordPress, WooCommerce, Laravel), Shopify and headless commerce, plus the API, cloud and release-pipeline work around them. Our engineers ship in these stacks every week. If we lack senior depth in a technology, we say so and point you elsewhere.

Not ourselves. Our practice is websites, eCommerce and the web platforms around them. Mobile apps, SaaS products and other product engineering are handled by our sibling company, and we route those enquiries there directly, so you still leave the first conversation with the right team.

Yes. Much of our development work ships under partner agencies' brands: your tools and client calls, our engineers behind the scenes. It's NDA-backed. We don't approach the clients you introduce to us for direct business, through the work and for twelve months after the last assignment for that client ends, and it's written into the agreement.

QA is part of every sprint. Automated checks run on every merge, and a QA engineer tests across browsers and devices before each demo. Defects are fixed and retested before you review the build. Our QA & Testing service runs the same process on code written by anyone.

We build alongside them. We read the codebase and its conventions before any commit, match the standards in place and use your review process. Our team takes a defined workstream, such as a migration, a performance pass or a feature backlog, and ownership of any shared module is agreed in writing at kickoff.

Yes: we work as your delivery team, and your materials remain yours. Bespoke deliverable rights, licences and handover are agreed before work starts. A named technical lead owns the architecture and a second senior engineer reviews every merge, with documentation and credentials handed over as we go.

Judge them on what you can check before you sign. Can you meet the named lead who will own your build? Will the repository sit in your accounts, with IP terms in writing, and will you get an itemised proposal and weekly written updates? That's how we work.
