Mediengruppe Oberfranken
Media & Publishing · Corporate
Mediengruppe Oberfranken (mgo) is a multimedia company based in Bamberg, Germany. It began as a local publisher and today runs more than 50 brands, products and holdings, from daily newspapers and magazines to apps, online and job portals, trade media and delivery services, in Germany and Austria.
With so much to represent, the corporate website had to make the group easy to understand: who it is, what its brands do, what it is like to work there and what is new.
What had to change
- 01More than 50 brands, products and holdings had to be presented without overwhelming visitors.
- 02Business customers, partners, job seekers and the press each needed their own way in.
- 03The group's story, values and community work had to sit alongside its commercial offer.
- 04News had to be easy for the group's own team to publish.
- 05The site had to work on every screen size.
The solution
A brand directory you can filter
A list of 50-plus names tells a visitor very little.
A brand directory filtered by category (daily newspapers, magazines, advertising papers, apps, online and job portals, trade media and holdings), each brand with its own entry.
Visitors find the right brand in a click.
One structure, many audiences
Customers, applicants, partners and journalists arrive with different questions.
A short main menu (company, brands, blog, local advertising) with careers, press and partners one step away.
Each audience has a clear way in.
A group with a human face
A holding company can easily feel faceless.
Bold red imagery, the group's own people, its story and values, and its community work through the Franken HELFEN Franken charity.
The group reads as a place people work, not just a list of companies.
News that stays current
A group this size always has something new to say.
A blog organised into the group's own categories (mgoVielfalt, mgoWandel and mgoTeam) that the team publishes itself.
Fresh content without waiting for a developer.
One red,
used with confidence.
The colours are sampled from the live site, and the typefaces are the ones it loads.
- mgo red
#FF0400 - Ink
#1A1A1A - Paper
#FFFFFF
- Type
- Palanquin, for headings, menus and copy
- Colour
- mgo red, laid over photography as a duotone
- Mark
- The mgo ring, repeated as a graphic device

Every page,
top to bottom.
Not a cropped hero: whole pages exactly as they are live. Scroll inside either screen, or play both.

The moments
we engineered
Pieces of the brief, caught mid-use on the live site.

A group with a human face
The company pages tell the group's story through its people, its values and its community work.

News the team publishes itself
Posts sorted into the group's own categories, so readers find team stories, change and brand news separately.
What we built,
where it lives
Each point is a feature from the brief, on the real screen. Hover a point or a note to match them.

More than 50 brands, filtered in a click
- 1Filter by categoryDaily newspapers, magazines, advertising papers, apps, portals, trade media and holdings.
- 2Trade media, by fieldThe group's specialist publishing split into its own fields, from healthcare to optics.
- 3Every brand, its own entryEach brand appears under its own logo, so the group can be scanned by name.

A short menu for many audiences
- 1BrandsThe brand directory is one of four items in the main menu.
- 2Local advertisingBusiness customers have their own route, straight from the menu.
At four times
screen resolution
The craft is in the small things: spacing, type, the weight of a button.

The whole group in one row of buttons
Every category of brand, one click each.
The same site,
in the hand
The same red, the same structure and the same directory on a phone.

What other teams can take from this
Structure before style
With dozens of brands, the hardest design decision is the structure. Get the categories right and the pages follow.
Give every audience a door
Customers, applicants and journalists want different things. A short menu with clear sections serves all of them better than one long one.
Let the people show
Real employees and the group's community work do more for a corporate site than any statement of values.
